The Horticulture Club at SDSU

The SDSU Horticulture Club is a pretty active group of people interested in Horticulture and having fun! This fall has already been rather hectic. We had a booth at the fall Ag Bio Bash, a watermelon seed spitting contest and other fun. Here is the group that came to our Halloween Party and pumpkin carving contest. Of course first we had to harvest and clean the pumpkins. At the party, we first had a ghoulish cauldron-luck meal before beginning the pumpkin carving. We had a fun evening with prizes being awarded for the best costumes and carved pumpkins. Click on the people in the group shot or on the smaller icon images to see a bigger image.

Upcoming
events will include a Fundraiser selling bulb forcing kits, our annual Wreath
Building workshop and other fun activities like a bowling party or
skating. We also plan to attend MACHS at Purdue this spring. If you
would like to get more information about the SDSU Horticulture Club, feel free
to contact the club president Jody Bates at flowercrazy@hotmail.com,
Vice President Scott Rusch at scottrusch@yahoo.com or the advisor
Dave Graper at david_graper@abs.sdstate.edu.
The Horticulture club will often meet with other clubs in the department. One
such event was an attempt at an ice skating party. Even though we didn't have a big
group show up for the event, those that did had a good time!
Other activities have included Halloween Party 1999
and link Horticulture Club wreath building
workshop 1999.
One of our
more enjoyable activities was to
build a float for the annual Hobo Day parade last year. The theme
that year was
Hobos in Hawaii so the group built a float using many natural materials that including old
tree limbs and ornamental grasses. Even though we didn't win any prizes, the people
that worked on the float had a lot of fun and got to know each other a bit better.
Here are a few more pics of the group building the float or riding it in the parade.

Another recent activity was to have a Halloween Party with the Landscape Club at our advisor's home. Everyone had to wear a costume and also got to carve a pumpkin. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes and carved pumpkins. Click here to see the Halloween Party 1999 Photo Album.
